Overview: Congratulations on nearing the end of your studies! As you move from the classroom to the clinic, your relationship with RCOT changes. Transitioning your membership ensures you have the legal protection and professional recognition required to start your career with confidence.

The "New Professional" Journey:

  1. HCPC Registration: Before you can practice as an "Occupational Therapist," you must register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). RCOT membership is separate but complementary to this legal requirement.

  2. Upgrade Your Membership: Once you receive your HCPC number, log in to your RCOT account to "Upgrade to Professional Member."

  3. Special New Graduate Rate: We offer a significantly reduced membership fee for the first year post-graduation to help you get on your feet.

Why Upgrade Immediately?

  • Professional Indemnity Insurance: As a student, you were covered only under supervision. As a Professional Member, you receive individual cover of up to £10 million, which is often a requirement for NHS and private contracts.

  • UNISON Support: Gain access to full trade union representation for any workplace disputes or contract queries.

  • First-Post Support: Access exclusive guides on acing your first Band 5 interview and understanding your preceptorship.
